Coaching

How do I choose an executive coach in Vietnam?

Check four things before hiring an executive coach in Vietnam: a credential from a recognised body such as the ICF, real experience coaching at the level you are buying for, the ability to work in the leader’s strongest language, and personal fit, which you only learn from a conversation. A good provider will offer that conversation without charge and let the leader choose between coaches.

The four checks

  • Credential: an ICF credential means the coach trained formally, is supervised against a code of ethics and logs real coaching hours. Ask for it; a good coach expects the question.
  • Level: ask what roles the coach has actually coached. Coaching a CEO is not the same work as coaching a first-time manager.
  • Language and context: a leader reflects best in their strongest language, and Vietnamese workplace dynamics read differently from a textbook. Vietnam-based, bilingual coaches remove both barriers.
  • Fit: the relationship does the work, so no credential substitutes for it. Insist on a chemistry conversation before committing, and on a choice of coach.

The questions worth asking a provider

  • Who exactly would coach our leader, and can we meet them first?
  • How is confidentiality handled between coach, leader and sponsor?
  • How do you measure whether the coaching changed anything?
  • What happens if the fit is wrong after two sessions?
